Interview with FashionUnited Country Manager Lori Hernandez

Couture Fashion Week is partnering with FashionUnited for the third time in 2016. What a great occasion to interview Lori Hernandez, Country Manager for the USA and Canada to tell us more about our valued partner.

Lori, for those who don’t know FashionUnited yet, what do you do?
FashionUnited is an online B2B platform for the fashion industry. We provide fashion professionals with the latest industry news, fashion jobs, business intelligence and many other services. FashionUnited is kind of a one-stop-shop destination for everything that you need to know if your heart beats “fashion”.

How did FashionUnited begin?
Our CEO, Lennard Minderhoud, formerly worked as an agent for a sportswear brand and noticed a lack of one platform that offers various services that are crucial for fashion professionals, so FashionUnited was born! Those working in fashion have busy schedules, therefore providing one platform with multiple services and features is very convenient and time efficient. You can visit FashionUnited if you are looking for a new professional challenge but also if you would like to be in the know about what is going on in the industry.

What is your role at FashionUnited?
I am the FashionUnited Country Manager for the USA and Canada. In this role I take care of different marketing and HR tasks. For instance, I support and consult fashion companies that are looking for a new employee. Employer branding is also a vital part of my work. Companies want to share insights into the company culture and values to attract the candidates that can relate to it and see themselves working there. Apart from working closely with fashion companies, I’m also in touch with fashion trade fairs and other crucial industry events.

Couture Fashion Week is also featured on FashionWeekWeb. Can you tell us more about it?
FashionWeekWeb is a platform that is dedicated to fashion week news. We noticed a need for one website with Fashion Week content. FashionWeekWeb is the result. Our editors report from Fashion Weeks around the globe, from Fiji to New York. Super exciting!

You are the country manager for the USA and Canada, are you active in other countries?
Yes, FashionUnited was founded in the Netherlands in 1998. Almost 20 years later we are active all around the world. We serve fashion professionals in more than 20 countries by offering them our services.

Celebrity Model Candice Zhao To Walk the Runway at Couture Fashion Week

Chinese celebrity model and actress Candice Zhao will close the “Elysium Fields” collection by Andres Aquino fashion show, 8:00 pm on Saturday February 13, 2016 at the Crowne Plaza Times Square in New York City.

Candice Zhao is the winner of the 35th Miss Bikini International competition in China and runner up in the World competition. She is also the winner of the reality TV show The Transformers for China talent search, chosen from 70,000 contestants. As an actress, Ms. Zhao has appeared in films including Transformers 4: Age of Extinction, Monster Trucks, Can I Borrow Your Phone and The Truth, as well as in the remake of the Chinese film We Are Family. She has been featured in numerous newspapers and magazines such as Man’s Uno, Esquire, Face, and Milk among others.

“I am so glad to have Candice close my show,” says designer Andres Aquino. “She is a triple threat: talented, beautiful and smart, representative of the 21st century woman on the rise, bringing grace and style to the catwalk and inspiring other women around the planet to excel.”

In addition to being an award-winning fashion designer, Andres Aquino, is the founder and producer of Couture Fashion Week New York, now in its 23rd season. In addition, Mr. Aquino is the publisher of Couture & Luxury magazine, a photographer and poet. His work and innovations in show production have been recognized by publications and media around the world. Luxury Spanish Footwear Brand Bymara On the Runway at Couture Fashion Week

Bymara, the luxury Spanish footwear brand, will present a selection of stunning designs on the runway as part of the Andres Aquino fashion show at Couture Fashion Week New York. Elegant Designs by Elcy Cortorreal to Grace the Couture Fashion Week Runway

New York-based designer Elcy Cortorreal will present her latest elegant collection of womenswear during the upcoming 23rd season of Couture Fashion Week in New York City. Marking the designer’s second appearance at the prestigious event, the fashion show will be held at 4:00 pm on Saturday February 13, 2016 in the Broadway Ballroom of the Crowne Plaza Times Square Manhattan.

A native of the Dominican Republic, Elcy Cortorreal discovered her passion for fashion design and painting at a young age. She graduated from Laie Fashion Design School, and went on to study at the renowned Altos de Chavon design academy where she perfected her craft.
Ms. Cortorreal has shown her designs at important fashion events in the Dominican Republic, garnering enthusiastic reviews from experts in the fashion industry. She became a pioneer in launching fashion shows in regions of the Dominican Republic where they had never been held before, including the first-ever fashion show held at the Pinar Dorado Hotel in Jarabacoa, a fast-growing tourist region.

Since 2006, Ms. Cortorreal has worked in the United States with a number of established designers, including fellow Dominican and fashion legend Oscar de la Renta. Her wealth of experience has contributed to the perfection of her own unique style and her vision of offering her clients a variety of products of optimum quality. She launched her own signature label in 2009 with the mission of creating high quality designs and services which strive to revolutionize consumers’ taste in the world of fashion design.

Designer Lainy Gold to Show “Fragile” Collection at Couture Fashion Week

Designer Lainy Gold will return to Couture Fashion Week New York with the showing of her latest collection entitled “Fragile.” The fashion show will be held at 4:00 pm on Sunday February 14, 2016 in the Broadway Ballroom of the Crowne Plaza Times Square Manhattan, 1605 Broadway, New York City. It will be part of Couture Fashion Week’s 23rd season, and marks Lainy Gold’s third show at the event.

Lainy Gold’s latest collection, “Fragile,” is the story of a woman’s struggle growing up and how she has blossomed into a very strong independent women . She is caring and delicate on the outside but powerful and strong on the inside. Her struggles have helped her appreciate life’s gifts. Ms. Gold celebrates the transformation from this challenging childhood through this inspired collection. The presentation starts very quietly, reserved and delicate, and ends with strength and power. Lainy Gold’s creativity comes through in this eclectic gathering of Art in Fashion. She considers design to be her lifeline, her air and how she breathes.

Ms. Gold is also a published photographer and has started to incorporate her love of art through fashion and photography in her work. Her designs and photos have been featured on numerous magazine covers and editorial pages. She is also an accomplished actress and has appeared in such TV shows as Law and Order, Gossip Girl and Blue Bloods, and films including New Year’s Eve, Mr. Poppers Penguin, Two Weeks Notice and Jersey Girl. Her latest role is in Road Rage – A Bleak Comedy, a film directed by Brad Mays.

Catalin Botezatu To Show Latest Dramatic Collection at Couture Fashion Week NY

Renowned celebrity fashion designer Catalin Botezatu will present his latest collection during the 23rd season of Couture Fashion Week New York. The highly-anticipated fashion show will be held at 8:00 pm on Friday February 12, 2016 at the Crowne Plaza Times Square, 1605 Broadway in New York City.

Mr. Botezatu’s fashion shows are always a delightful extravaganza based on specific themes. Some past themes include “Egyptian”, “Buddha Bar”, “Angels”, “Witches”, “Byzantium” “Barbarian”, “Kyoto”, and “Chicago”, among many others. Mr. Botezatu is the only major world designer who personally oversees all production elements of his shows, from garments and accessories to hair and makeup, soundtrack and choreography. He has participated in numerous prestigious fashion events all over the world including in Milan, Venice, Paris, Bali, Iceland, Cannes, Monte Carlo, Rome, Istanbul, Malta, Athens, Moscow, Las Vegas, Chicago, Bucharest, Jakarta, Sri Lanka, New Dehli and Jamaica, as well as being a special featured designer at Couture Fashion Week New York on multiple occasions.

Catalin Botezatu started his fashion career as a model. He went on to study and work with fashion legend Gianni Versace, who influenced his style considerably. Mr. Botezatu later returned to his native Bucharest and launched his own fashion house, “Delphi.” He has received more awards than any other Romanian designer throughout his prodigious and prolific career, including being twice named Romanian Designer of the Year by Romanian National Television. He has made fashion history doing photo shoots at the Amir Palace in Tunisia, and at the world-famous Egyptian pyramids and Sphinx, and has staged many over-the-top fashion and entertainment events. He has been featured in major media including Book Moda (Italy), Der Stern (Germany), Fashion TV (France and Canada), OQ TV (Austria), She (UK), and Vogue.

In addition to his breathtaking couture fashions, Catalin Botezatu also designs swimwear, men’s underwear, jewelry and ready-to-wear collections, as well as furniture and home accessories. He has collaborated with famed Italian designer Valeria Marini, and has designed for VIPs, socialites and celebrities including Vanessa Williams, opera star Angela Gheorghiu, and Olympic gold medalist Nadia Comaneci. Mr. Botezatu also has a signature perfume line, and recently was The Bachelor on the hit reality TV series in Romania for several seasons. He is also the host of the Next Top Model series in Romania, which has set new records for TV viewership. A biography of Catalin Botezatu, entitled Three Lives. Punishment was recently published by Monica Vlad, and has become a bestseller. Mr. Botezatu is also an international ambassador for the GH Mumm champagne brand.

Alexandra Popescu-York Returns to Couture Fashion Week with “Unleashed” Collection

Acclaimed artist-designer Alexandra Popescu-York will make her fifth appearance at Couture Fashion Week New York with the showing of her latest collection entitled “Unleashed.” A regular favorite of CFW audiences, Ms. Popescu-York’s fashion show will be held at 6:00 pm on Sunday February 14, 2016 in the Broadway Ballroom of the Crowne Plaza Times Square Manhattan, in the heart of the Big Apple.

“Unleashed” is a splendidly rich Fall-Winter 2016 collection of garments and accessories with a glamorous avant-garde look that is as edgy and unique as the emblematic New Yorker. The collection features one-of-a-kind intricately detailed pieces of clothing, jewelery and handbags made of select, finely embroidered fabrics. It is a collection for the woman whose presence is a statement that captures the eye and soul at first sight and remains the center of everyone’s attention until the end.

In addition to her fashion show, Ms. Popescu-York will also have a three-day exhibit of her paintings during Couture Fashion Week, February 12-14, 2016. Both her fashion collection and the art she will exhibit are inspired by the vibrancy of New York City.

Romanian-born, New York City-based designer and artist Alexandra Popescu-York (also known as Alexandra Suciu in her roles as wife and mother) has fast emerged on the global stage of visual arts and the fashion industry. She has garnered numerous accolades, with the most recent being the inclusion of her paintings in the United Nations’ 70th anniversary international art exhibition. Ms. Popescu-York’s humanitarian efforts have earned her the title of “Ambassador of Good Hearts and Romanian Culture”.

Ms. Popescu-York’s creations are characterized by each piece’s exquisitely symbolic depiction of carefully selected themes. Recent themes include “Âme de l’artiste” (soul of the artist), “Phoenix – The Legend”, “Metropolitan” (inspired by art, history and civilization highlights from the Metropolitan Museum of Art), and “GranD’Or”, a collection based on Ms. Popescu-York’s own artistic creations. The Nepal showcase at Couture Fashion Week New York will include around a dozen prominent companies in such industries as tourism, fabrics, art and handicrafts. Visitors to the event are welcome to stop by the exhibits on Friday February 12 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm, and on Saturday and Sunday, February 13 and 14 from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
